The Hottest Bird in the Desert

Meet Fuego—the fiery heart and soul of the Coachella Valley Firebirds, an affiliate of the NHL’s Seattle Kraken.

Rising from the heat of the Southern California desert, Fuego isn’t just hot—he’s red hot, stealing the spotlight as the AHL’s hottest mascot. Whether he’s hyping up the crowd, dancing through the stands, or striking a pose with fans, Fuego brings the fun and keeps the energy soaring. You’ll spot him all over the Coachella Valley, but his favorite nest? That’s right—Acrisure Arena, where he rules the roost. Let’s dive into the fiery world of Coachella Valley’s most beloved bird!

What’s your favorite part about hyping up the crowd at Acrisure Arena?
I feed off the crowd; the more energy they have, the more I have. I love when they challenge me to match their energy. No matter where I’m at in the arena, once I bang my drum, I’m commanding a rabid fan base.

Do you have a pre-game routine to get fired up for the game?
There was a rumor from the players that I drank 6 espresso shots and 3 energy drinks before a game. But I’m just pure adrenaline. Sometimes I like to hang in the furnace room before the game to get warmed up.

Do you have a signature move or handshake with the fans?
I like to call it the dap and flap. Pretty much a high five and flapping our wings. That’s how I know they’re a true fan.

What’s your favorite part of game day at Acrisure Arena?
Besides winning, climbing to the top of the ladder and waving the Firebirds flag during the 3rd period noise meter is definitely the highlight of the game. I’m still waiting for OSHA to send me a letter in the mail.

Have you ever had a dance-off with another mascot?
I already won the AHL mascot dance-off at the All-Star Classic. So, on the NHL level, I’d face off against Al the Octopus from Detroit. Look him up and tell me I wouldn’t win.

If you could play any position on the ice, what would it be and why?
Center, because I’m the “Center of Attention,” duh. I’d also try goalie, but I’d need some pointers from Kokko (a goalie on Firebirds roster) first.

What’s the craziest stunt you’ve ever pulled off at a game?
I’ve jumped off some tall ladders, but the craziest thing I’ve done is swing from the catwalk during the Calder Cup Finals. Proved to all the haters that I can fly.

What’s one thing you wish all Firebirds fans knew about you?
It’s nothing personal if I didn’t have time to take a photo with you during a game. I was most likely rushing to my next hit, which could be a seat visit, dance-off, or even an outfit change. They give me a busy schedule, and if I don’t follow it, they’ll revoke my bird seed payment.

What’s your favorite thing to do when you’re not on the ice?
I FaceTime some of my other mascot buds to catch up with them. It gets awkward though, since we can’t talk. I’m also the best golfer in the valley (for a bird). If anyone asks, I only get birdies.

What is your favorite outfit you’ve worn?
I’ve had a few, but my all-gold outfit from the All-Star Classic was iconic, not gonna lie. Although the Dumb and Dumber colored suits with Buoy is a close second.

Where does a bird like Fuego go for his custom fits?
A fashionista never reveals his secrets. Also, because I don’t want my boss to know how much I’ve spent on my outfits. You’re not showing this to them, right?
