Enjoy the Outdoors!

Get out there and enjoy nature! This area has trails for miles, some with water, others with bridges. Whatever your comfort level, there's a place to start. Bring the kids, the stroller, the dogs, good shoes and lots of water! It gets hot here in the summer!

Lake Hodges- Easy to moderate, up to 6 miles
Hiking, biking, fishing. Multiple trails. Kid and Dog friendly. Views of the lake.

Harmony Grove Overlook- Moderate - 2-3 hours
Enjoy pretty lake views, free parking, biking, dog friendly.

Daley Ranch- Easy to moderate - 20+ miles of trails 
Hiking, biking & horseback riding. A nature preserve, there is lots to see with  picnic tables for rest stops.

Blue Sky Ecological Reserve- Easy to moderate 
700 acre canyon - hiking trails, guided tours, lake views, picnic tables, dog friendly.

Lake Poway- Easy to moderate 
Hiking, fishing, boat rentals. Some uphill climbs, gorgeous views of Lake Poway and the surrounding nature as well. Dog friendly.

Potato Chip Rock- Moderate to difficult. 7 miles
The renowned potato chip rock hike starting point in Poway is a good leg workout with some more serious cardio, but worth it for the nature views and sense of accomplishment at the top!

San Dieguito River Trail- Easy to moderate, 2-3 hours
Relatively flat, well-groomed, wide trails make this trail good for walking, running, biking, and the whole family! Not to mention, dogs are always welcome, and you’ll get a scenic view of the San Dieguito River.

Bernardo Mountain Trail- Easy to moderate, 5 miles
Both paved and dirt portions, there is easy access to lake Hodges and many blooming flowers - though there isn't much shade, so plan accordingly!

West Ridge Trail - Easy to moderate,  4.5 miles
Easy, this dirt hike behind the RB homes, incredible views of the west side of town, Lake Hodges, and the sunset - depending on what time you go!

San Marcos River Walk- Easy,  2 miles/1 hour
This nicely paved walk alongside the San Marcos River, through the city park and rio vista park makes for a sweet and simple hike you can squeeze in anytime for a good little walk.

Double Peak Park- Moderate 
Makes you feel like you’re on top of the world. Being able to see the ocean from San Marcos is something only this hike can capture, and it’s a great workout too!

Lake San Marcos Cross- Moderate 
Panoramic views of Lake San Marcos, Palomar mountains, Escondido and ocean views too.

Jack Pond Nature Center- Easy to Moderate
Hike any of the many trails, or visit the Nature Center for a talk with the ranger about the plants along the way.
